Just wanted to remind everyone that I have my own YouTube channel. I’m not sure I ever actually plugged it on the blog. All of my videos will eventually end up on this channel, including one random video from LSU football tailgating. So check them out here, and below:
Is it odd that I promote other photographers on my blog? Probably to some people, but not me
Do I like this video? Yes – for the most part. There is some amazing lighting, incredible landscapes and fantastic slow motion.
Do I like the song? Honestly? No. But then again, I’m a hip-hop guy. Who knows, it may grow on me.
Why am I putting it on here? This is a great thing. Photographers stepping out of their comfort zones to try something new. I love it. Chase is a commercial photographer out of Seattle, WA who does some directing. But for the most part, from what I can tell, will usually just stay in the realm of still photography. Clearly I’m a fan of this, given the recent post with the Vampire Temptress, aka my wife Chelsea. I am also stepping on the music video front for my good friend Chris Keegan, soon. So this is particularly interesting to me. Anyway, check out his video. Then click here to see some behind the scenes. Enjoy.
First of all, I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween. For Halloween this year, we decided to do an impromptu Halloween photoshoot. This was decided in the car around 6pm. From that idea, we spawned a video, which turned into more of a story video. Then, if you see the previous post, we decided to fake an interview that was interrupted by our vampire vixen. Needless to say, I am no actor, so it’s a bit silly. We planned, shot stills, shot video and uploaded everything in 6 hours start to finish. The final product came out great! The lighting setup was a simple Alienbee 800 with a large softbox, camera right, with just a black background. Vampire materials were simply some teeth picked up from the local costume shop. That’s pretty much it. Big thanks to Jordan for helping and my wife Chelsea for modeling. This was so much fun, next year we will do a full series. Also, there is a little surprise in the coming weeks. A late Halloween gift if you will. So here are the shots and the video. I hope you all enjoy.
It’s no secret that I am an enormous Jay-z fan. Both musically and non-musically. I found this video from the Oprah Show really fascinating. This is a person who never shares his private life, so this very brief look into his is so interesting to me. There is also a line that sticks out in it that I couldn’t agree with more. He says something like, “I’m not trying to be Ralph Lauren, but he’s the one I’m definitely chasing”, or something along those lines. Man, I couldn’t agree with that more. Especially when it comes to trying to model my business and marketing in the Chase Jarvis fashion. Or when I look at a guy like Tim Mantoani, someone who has worked extremely hard and is in the EXACT place I want to be in. Incredibly talented and smart men. Anyway, here is the video:
Last weekend I went to the Louisiana Tech University, home opener, football game. Before the game, I decided to get together with Donald Page and put together a little behind the scenes look at what it’s like to do this. Needless to say, we flew by the seat of our pants, but I think we have a decent little video here to show. Because of that, I want to make it into a series. The next one will be far less shaky and more planned out. But for all of you that have emailed me about ‘how to do something’, I hope these videos help. So enjoy part 1. Part 2 will be much better.
With web traffic where it is, I want to take this time to do a quick shameless plug for myself. Hire me for your commercial, sports and portrait photography needs. Even graphic design. As Chase Jarvis says, I’m born and bred to create art, and I would like nothing more than to do it for you.
