I had the opportunity to shoot John Wall and the Kentucky Wildcats last weekend when they came to Baton Rouge to take on LSU. Needless to say, it wasn’t much of a game after the first 10 minutes. John Wall is clearly, every bit as good as the experts say he is. I was highly impressed with the entire Kentucky operation. They even held an impromptu slam dunk contest with themselves before the game. They are my pick to win it all, and after the game I saw, I hope they do.

Getting published is always cool, but this time it’s a bit different. In the previous post, at the bottom, I mentioned how I never get the player intro shots but that my friend Aaron snatched my camera and got some himself. Well, one of those shots landed as a headliner on Louisiana Tech’s official website. Hats off to Aaron. If you’re anything like me, it’s a very cool feeling.
Man, it’s been a long time, at least it feels like, since I shot sports. Being back in Ruston has it’s perks. I do a lot of work for Louisiana Tech and that lands me courtside/sideline a lot. One great great thing about being at Tech is how laid back it is. When I shoot LSU, it just seems so intense, not so much here. Lastnight Tech took on New Mexico State. The Bulldogs fought hard but in the end came up short. I’m proud of Tech this year. They have a solid team and seem to be on the brink of great things. For me, the game seemed a little rusty. It took a while to get used to the speed of basketball again. But I think I got some pretty good shots. Can’t wait for the next one. Also, it’s great to see all the old friends at the game…..it’s good to be back.
One thing I find interesting about shooting basketball are the little elements of the game. Things like the writing on the shoes…
…and I also find the tattoos to be very interesting.
I also just liked this next shot a lot. Not sure why. Just cool to me.
One thing I’ve never done but really wanted to do, is shoot players when they are being introduced. And I still haven’t. These shots were taken by a young up and coming sports photographer, and son of a good friend of mine, Aaron Boersma. Remember that name. I think we will be seeing good things in the coming years from him.
This is my favorite sport to shoot. The next few months will be fun. LSU started off with a win too. That’s always a plus.
