Memories: Childhood in the 80’s
I got this idea from Johnny Cupcakes today, and I’m sure he won’t mind me semi-copying. Since I turned 29, I’ve been going through this weird, ‘where did the time go?’, sort of thing. I hope I get over it soon, but it made his post about Saturday Morning Cartoons really strike a chord. So I thought, why not do a fun post about 80’s commercials, starring the things that were ‘life changing’ to me as a child. I was born in 1981, so the bulk of these will be from the 80’s with a taste of the 90’s in here. Just for fun, enjoy:
I remember when the Nintendo first came out. I remember it like it was yesterday. My good friend Evan got one and I would run to his house every single day and play for hours. Metroid was the biggest draw for us.
Speaking of Nintendo, the greatest game for Nintendo…..EVER:
Nothing impressed me more when I was a child than monster trucks. Period. End of story.
This is from the 90’s, but the Super Soaker changed the water gun game forever. Pool parties were never the same. I only saw one Super Soaker 200 in my lifetime, and it was at my cousin Chris’ pool party. I had the 25…..or whatever number the yellow one was. Outstanding:
How can kids not love these anymore? It may have to do with baseball being less popular than it was in the 80’s. But I remember trading hundreds of Topps cards with my buddies at Millerville Academy. Man we destroyed some cardboard back then. The industry isn’t the same anymore, but I still like to dabble. Enjoy this commercial from 1992:
Hope this was fun. Enjoy your weekend. More backyard brawl pics to be blogged soon, along with Christi Martin’s photo set and a few from a Montana Wedding.

And I enjoyed taking you to the see the Monster Trucks (MONKSTER TRUCKS). I remember when Miss Marsha went to go get snacks, both hands full and the trucks cranked up. The look of pain on her face was absolutely priceless!
I also remember hearing them crank up from my office across the street when they were going inside the centroplex. YEP! Your MOM loved the Monster Trucks too, my dear….
