Labor Day Weekend Fun

I figured this weekend would have a lot going on, being a holiday weekend and factor in that I did not have any photo shoots.  So I decided to take it upon myself and document a little bit of what my life is like on the weekends.

Things ‘kicked off’ Friday night at Parkview Baptist High School.  My little sister and brother go there and wanted to go to the first home game of the season.  Sounded fun to me. I hadn’t been to a high school game since, well, high school.  It was good fun.  Here is Chelsea having a blast, clearly:

Parkview wound up tearing Christian Life a new one, so we bailed at halftime.  From there, the group migrated down the road to Casa La Vida, Mexican restaurant on Coursey.  I really enjoy this place.  They have really good Mexican and…

Delicous margaritas.  Things got a little silly.

The next morning we decided to head on down to the Main Street Market.  Every Saturday, they host the Farmer’s Market here.  However, on the first Saturday of the month, they also have the artist’s booths set up.  I highly recommend coming down to this if you have never been.  You can find all sorts of delicious things to ingest, great art to buy and sometimes some great music to jam to.  We always have a  good time here.

I even ran into a former co-worker of mine, Chuck.  Chuck seemed to be in great spirits and that makes me very happy.  He is a good guy.  He now has my business card so hopefully, Chuck, we can do some work together.  I look forward to it.

From Farmer’s Market, it was time to grab some lunch. We decided to hit up Fleur De Lis for some pizza (located on Government at Jefferson).  Now some of you may laugh, but I have never been to Fleur De Lis for pizza.  Apparently it’s iconic in Baton Rouge.  I walked in and immediately loved this place.  I felt like I was transported back to 1968, and I was born in 1981.  The pizza was amazing.  For $5 you get a 9 inch pizza that is the best on the planet.  For $1 you get a glass bottled Coke.  The best $6 I have spent in a VERY long time. If you’re in the area, definitely stop in.  But remember, they do not accept plastic.  Cash only.

After the delicious pit stop was over, we headed over to The Compact Disc Store and the School of Comics.  The Compact Disc Store is probably the coolest music shop in town.  I will only buy cds from here for the rest of my days in Baton Rouge.  It’s like a Mom and Pop shop, and has a ton of music that I dont know if you can find at a major store.  Oh, and the vinyl selection…..dont get me started.  I love it.   Be sure to pet the cat.  Also, School of Comics is a really neat store.  I’m not even a fan of comics but I love to just go in here and check out the awesome artwork and find something new.  I always leave inspired.

Saturday night marked the kickoff of the 2009 football season.  Could there be a better day of the year?  I think not.  For the  Louisiana Tech vs Auburn matchup, we decided to head over to the Fox & Hound to join fellow Louisiana Tech alumni in a viewing party.  It was a really good time.  We got to see a lot of old friends and watch the Dawgs go into battle.  We fought hard, but Auburn proved to be too much.  After this, we retired to the house to stay up extremely late and watch LSU against Washington.  Tech may not have pulled it off, but the Tigers made the day happy again by defeating the Huskies.  Man I love me some football.  This is gonna be one happy season.

The rest of the weekend capped of with our annual fantasy football draft.  I feel confident this season. Larry Fitz to the promise land.  Sunday proved to be very ‘Labor Day-tastic’.  We stared off the day by going to the movies with Henry and Amanda and watching, Inglorious Basterds.  MAN!  What an awesome movie.  If you haven’t seen this movie, do it.  So awesome.  After that, we decided to wind down with a relaxing BBQ at Dad’s, where we grilled burgers and I wrote some ideas in my sticker laden sketch book.  I had a really good time this weekend.  Things seem to be shaping up.  I think the future is bright.

I really enjoyed photo documenting my weekend.  I may start doing this regularly.  But perhaps less play by play, and more photos with simple captions.  I hope you enjoyed.  Have a good one.
