Published in SI!

I finally landed a copy of the Sports Illustrated SEC Preview issue. Sports Illustrated, to me, is pretty much the pinnacle for shooting sports. Fellow sports photographer, Derick Hingle, hit me on facebook to tell me I had made the cover and a full page photo in this issue. My mind was blown. I had all but given up hope on being in SI, so I was definitely in disbelief. But it’s true. However, I was trumped by Derick himself, as he had the main image on the cover of Patrick Peterson. I’m still pumped though. I hope this leads to many more. I know this is a short post but I’m almost at a loss for words. Especially since I just found out I was also published in the Sporting News this week.

Full page!  Published right next to Mark Rebilas.  I never thought that’d happen.

My first time to ever be published in Sports Illustrated & on the cover! More to come on this tomorrow, if I can get my hands on a copy of the magazine. (hopefully)

HDR Athletes

I’ve always been fascinated with HDR. However, I’ve never done it before, because I never really knew how and I was worried I would make it look terrible. HDR is one of those things that is done right, it can look amazing. If done wrong, can look like complete garbage. So I decided to give it a shot on some custom NCAA 11 covers, just to see what it would look like, and because I’d never seen an LSU or Louisiana Tech cover:

So that got me a little excited and I decided to do more.  More HDR-ish…..more surreal.  So I played for a little while and came up with these two.  I’m happy with the results of the following:

You may not be happy with the result, but hey, to each his own.  I feel like they look, as my buddy Adam said of the Stafford, like High Def photos.  In short, HDR can be fun.  But pick and choose the uses.  For a great example of picking and choosing when to use it, visit Gary Land.

Have a great weekend everyone.  More posts next week.
