Know How To Use Your Camera?

Yes? No? Maybe so? Wondering if buying a higher end SLR was a good idea?  Well my good friend Henry McCoy is here to help you out.  Henry is holding a workshop in Baton Rouge on how to take better photos.  Henry knows his stuff, big time, so if you’re not quite there or feel like you’re on the edge of knowing how to ‘master’ your camera, this is the workshop for you and I highly encourage you to sign up.  Workshop is June 19, and is $125.  Why am I telling you all about it?  Read about it here.  Have fun!

Music To Edit To

music

I find that music and editing go hand in hand.  It’s almost as if I don’t listen to music, no work gets done.  I like to listen to music that gets my hyped up, so that I edit to my fullest capabilities.  If you aren’t listening to music when you edit (I don’t know who doesn’t), you ought to start.  Your work and spirits will both improve.  Feel free to try any of these albums that I’ve shown. Im sure they are probably not going to suit everyone, but give them a shot.  Have a happy Memorial Day weekend.  Bbq something for me.

Got a Big Fat Mention From Jeremy Shockey Today = Awesome.

Before:
This is going to be a blank post for now. I’m just on my lunch break. But it looks like I have to post something now. Until then, www.mattlange.com.
After:
Ok, I’m off work now and I have a little time to address this ‘tweet’ by Jeremy Shockey. As you all know, I took a picture of Jeremy during the Lions game and for some reason or another it was never published. Some friends of mine gave me a heads up that he’d be signing some autographs at Jaimie’s Field of Dreams in Monroe, LA., so I took the opportunity to take two prints over there and get one signed for my wall and give him one (unfortunately I cannot sell them to anyone and these are the only ones in existance, that you see in the vid).

Anyway, today I was at work when my phone started ringing off the hook and I kept getting emails saying that I had all these people following me on twitter. So much so, that I thought I was getting spammed. Then finally someone text me and told me about Jeremy’s post on his facebook. Wow, what a surprise. I was glad he reacted the way he did when I gave it to him and from what I heard later. I was SUPER excited today to know he liked it enough to hang it in his house.

As photographers, we always wonder when we’ve ‘made it’. Chase Jarvis even blogged something on the topic this week. Well, for me, this is when I’ve made it. I told my boss later today, it’s not the pub that he gave me (although that’s pretty cool), it’s the fact that someone of that stature, is so humbled by something that I did and he hung it in his house. That means I’ve made it.

Thanks Jeremy, the pleasure is all mine. Who Dat!

Busy Week and Birthdays

Man, it’s been a busy week. But that’s a good thing. Things are really picking up at work on the video end, at Donnie Bell Design (video wise) and that’s awesome. Our agency is known for doing really great design work, both print and web, but I think we may now be on the verge of some really big video things. Working on a commercial for Fairway Carts in Minden, LA right now and have some more Louisiana Tech Athletics video in the works as well. Spread the word, tell your friends. We’re making commercials and making them great. And again, if you haven’t seen it:

2010 Louisiana Tech Football Season Ticket Promo from Donnie Bell Design on Vimeo.

Also, I have Leslie and Aaron’s wedding to wrap up. I’m going to put a teaser up today ;-) .

And Sunday is my birthday. Feel free to shower me with gifts and praise. Not really. But I will be treating myself to Robin Hood this weekend to celebrate. Yes!

Have a good weekend. And here’s to an exciting new year…

Jeremy Shockey

There are times when it’s fun to just be a fan. I’m a Saints fan, and I’m for sure a Jeremy Shockey fan. Last season, I had the opportunity to photograph the Saints opener against the Lions. It’s only the 2nd Saints game I’ve ever been to, which is amazing since I’m from South Louisiana (never could afford tickets). This was an amazing experience for me to say the least. The biggest highlight of my day was catching a shot of Jeremy Shockey catching a touchdown pass RIGHT in front of me. I mean dead on. Come to find out later, it was his first as a Saint, which made it even better. I have no idea why, to this day, this shot was never published. But it’s probably the best shot I’ve ever taken at a sporting event. And seeing as how I probably won’t shoot the Saints ever again, it made it that much better. I got wind that Jeremy was coming to Monroe for an autograph signing and I immediately got my ticket. $60 for a signature, in person, of the guy in my all time favorite shot….yes please. But, in being the good fan, I wanted Jeremy to have a copy too. Since I know for a fact I was the only person in the position to shoot that, and it was never published…I knew for a fact he didn’t have this shot nor had he seen it. Not to mention, it was his FIRST touchdown as a Saint. It was only the right thing to do. So we went to the signing and I have to admit, getting the autograph was awesome. He was a super cool guy and I was really impressed. BUT. The highlight was actually giving him his copy. He seemed very gracious and immediately knew what the shot was of. That was so much cooler than me getting mine signed. I feel like I made his day a little better. Anyway, thanks to Jeremy and Jaimie of Jaimie’s Sports Cards in Monroe, LA. It was a blast. Enjoy my little ‘Shockumentary’ we made:
