Louisiana Tech Football Season Ticket Ad

In the previous post, I discussed my recent move to Donnie Bell Design to begin, what should be, a very cool video production/editing position.  Task number one so far, has been the Louisiana Tech season ticket ad for the football season.  Instead of doing the normal, throw some highlights over rock music routine, we decided to concept an original ad showcasing on of the star players and the new head coach, Sonny Dykes.  After a few weeks of starting, scrapping, starting, scrapping and starting again….we arrive at the debut.  This is an ad that we all worked really hard on and are all VERY excited to show off.  I really hope that it does the job it’s intended to do for Louisiana Tech football.  And I really think that this is the beginning of something really awesome at DBD.  Anyway, here you go:

Rotolo’s

I was contacted recently by a former coworker and friend, Mandy with Success Designs to do some food photography for Rotolo’s restaurant in Prairieville.  Being from south Louisiana and a huge fan of their food I immediately said yes.  Now I had never done food photography befure, but I think these came out pretty good.  It wasn’t nearly as hard as everyone says it is.  Now I’m not saying what I shot was the best ever, but I wanted to show a few of them.  I’m pretty proud for sure.

My New Home – Donnie Bell Design

theDBDcrew

I’ve been sitting on this, pretty much for 5 weeks now.  As a lot of you know, I moved back to Ruston back in January to hop back into the advertising world.  I was the guest blogger for Scott Kelby, posting about my recent move and what it meant to me, from a more personal view.  Well, as circumstances would have, that move was short lived.  I won’t go into details, but I will say that I have now found a new home that I am EXTREMELY excited about.  I am now the (fill in title here) at Donnie Bell Design, here in Ruston, LA.  I waited until the launch of our new website for the OFFICIAL announcement.  But the site is now live, here, and this is the announcement.  I’ve been following the work done at DBD for quite some time now, a lot longer than Donnie probably knows (2004 I believe).  I have always been…..’wowed’ by the portfolio that is produced from the DBD World Headquarters. Donnie contacted me about starting a video division, and wanted to bring me on board.  I was floored.  Since graduating from Louisiana Tech University, I have yet to really have a design/video job at a design firm that you see on the internet.  By that I mean, the really creative environment, wear what you want, get a ton of insightful feedback, etc, design firm.  Well this is it.  (This is not a knock against any other place I’ve worked.  You guys know what I’m trying to say here)

The idea is a simple idea:  Create imaginative and thought provoking video/motion graphics for tv, the net and other methods of viewing pleasure.  In the coming weeks, on the DBD site, we will be showcasing the video projects we are currently creating.  I’m extremely excited for everyone to see them.  I suggest bookmarking the site and subscribing to the blog here.  I’ll have my hand in a little bit of the blogging action that goes on here.  Also, the twitter…..the facebook…..the social media.  Yeah, we offer that too.    Oh yeah, did I mention the photography?  No?  We do photography too ;-) .

This is gonna be a sweet ride.

Matt Lange vs the Steadicam Merlin – Day 1

SDC-MERLIN

Today I met a worthy opponent….the Steadicam Merlin.  Through a series of emails and phone calls, it seemed to me that the consensus number one stabilizer for the Canon 5DMKII was the Steadicam Merlin.  If you were to look at YouTube videos of the Merlin in action, you would think, ‘man that’s smooth and easy to use’.  Well, let me tell you TWO things, at the risk of sounding like a photo gear moron.  1) It’s very smooth IF 2) you can get it balanced!  Man, I have never dealt with a more tiring piece of equipment in all my photo days.  It would seem like you get the thing balanced, moved a little, then all the sudden it’s not balanced.  And let me go a little further.  If you don’t have it balanced, do not shoot any video.  It will look aweful.  Through my new job at Donnie Bell Design, we are unleashing the Merlin tomorrow for the new Louisiana Tech Football Season Ticket tv campaign.  There will be more details.  Many more details to come.  Stay tuned.

Side note:  This is in no way a knock against the Merlin.  Not yet at least.  Lol, it’s just simply very new and will take A LOT of getting used to.
