New Beginning

I was going to title this post ‘Money Doesn’t Buy Happiness’, but I thought….I need to make money to live.  So I decided to go more ‘generic’ in the title.

For those of you who do not know, I quit my fulltime job last Friday.  At 4:30 pm, on Friday July 17, 2009, I became self-employed.  There were so many reasons behind this.  I think the biggest part, however, was that I just wasn’t happy.  I have had a camera in my hand or around me in some fashion, as far as I can remember.  And so after many discussions with my awesome wife, we decided it was time.  Ultimately, the goal of all this is to become a successul commercial photographer, with my niche being in ’sport’.  I would LOVE to shoot for Nike one day, and I’ve already sent my portfolio to their ad agency twice.  But I’m not crazy.  I realize now, that in order for myself and my family to eat….I have to shoot.  So I am now taking on every type of photography there is.  If you require my services for any sort of shoot, just email me.  I won’t promote it on my site, but I’ll do it.

With that said, I want everyone to know something.  If you have passion and the desire to do something you love to make money…DO IT.  I have never been happier.  I feel so free and excited.  There will be extremely hard times, no doubt about it.  But there will also be some amazing times.  I’m going to meet amazing people and see amazing things.  And I cannot wait.  This is going to be an amazing journey.  So from now on, I’m blogging a lot more and updating my gallery a lot more.  I want everyone to be on my journey with me.  Strap it in….it’s going to be fun.

Donnis – Clermont Lounge Video

For those of you who don’t  know, I also edit video.  It’s actually what I do as a fulltime job.  Well, that is, until tomorrow (that blog post is coming soon, on that subject).  Anyway.  I am now editing videos for Motion Family out of Atlanta.  My first video premiered today on The Fader’s website.  The Fader is my favorite magazine, so for this video to premiere on their site, is like it debuting on MTV in my eyes.

Sports Graphic Design Part 1 – Chris Cooley

On my old site you may have noticed a gallery called ‘Sports Design’ or ‘Sports Graphic Design’ or something like that. For those of you who don’t know this about me, I have a degree in Graphic Design. That’s right, I went to Louisiana Tech University and earned my degree in Graphic Design, NOT photography. **Quick note: Louisiana Tech University is awesome. I think it’s one of the top art programs in the state of Louisiana. Hands down. This is in no means, a cut to that program. I’m just stating that I happened to get my degree in design from there.** With that said, not only do a fancy myself a pretty good designer, but I LOVE sports. Duh, you should know that by now. I’ve been very fortunate to be able to do some pretty awesome things, graphically, for some pretty awesome people just by putting my neck out there. Today I would like to share part one of this little series: Chris Cooley.

For those of you who don’t know, Chris Cooley is a Tight End for the Washington Redskins. He also has his own blog, which you can find here. I highly recommend visiting this blog all the time. It’s hilarious and awesome. Chris is a very down to earth guy it would seem but reading this blog and watching his videos. I could definitely hang with this guy and it would feel just like hanging with my real life friends. Anyway, I stumbled across this blog when it very first started, and was hooked. I enjoy the humor, behind the scenes look at things and also the charity work that Chris does. He has an online shop called ‘Shop 47′. Unless things have changed and he has gotten a new charity, all the proceeds from his online sales go to benefit a breast cancer charity that he has chosen. With all this said, I offered to do some graphic design work for his blog. To my surprise, I had a response that day, and everything was a go. Ok this is getting long. Working with these guys has been awesome, and here are two examples I did for his site:

As I said, working with these guys was awesome and I’m proud to see my work on a site that so many people visit.  I hope to do more work with them, now that I have resigned from my fulltime job to focus on being creative fulltime.  Again, visit his blog often.  It’s highly entertaining.

Next in the series:  Part 2 – Louisiana Tech Football

Football & Behind The Scenes Video

Last Saturday I got together with my good friend Shaun Grant to put together a ’sports’ or ‘football’ shoot. We sweat it out and the results were really awesome. Thanks to Broadmoor High School (my alma mater) for letting us use the practice field. Here ya go…
